Key responsibilities of the Finance Standing Committee
Under the Kerala Panchayat Raj Act, the Finance Standing Committee regulates and oversees the financial affairs of the panchayat.
Key responsibilities:
Assist in preparing the panchayat budget.
Examine and make recommendations on the annual budget and revised budget.
Suggest ways to increase revenue.
Improve the efficiency of collection of taxes, fees, and cess.
Examine the panchayat's receipts and expenditure accounts.
Oversee financial transactions.
Examine audit reports and audit observations and suggest follow-up actions.
Ensure that the utilization of panchayat funds is lawful and efficient.
Examine matters relating to the financial management of the panchayat's properties and assets.
Provide necessary directions for financial control and reduction of expenditure.
Provide suggestions for identifying financial resources required for development projects.
Perform other finance-related matters assigned by the panchayat committee.
