Veliyannoor
Grama Panchayat

The present-day Velliyannoor Grama Panchayat area, until December 1, 1972, was part of Uzhavoor Panchayat, which also included the present Uzhavoor Panchayat area. Its headquarters was at Velliyannoor. Shri M. J. Abraham, Myladumkunnel Puthuveli, served as the President of Uzhavoor Panchayat for a considerable period.

During the tenure of the governing committee headed by Prof. C. J. Joseph, Uzhavoor Panchayat was bifurcated and Velliyannoor Panchayat came into existence on December 1, 1972, as per Government Order No. 3179/MP Special 4/72 LASWD L&SW. Shri E. U. Kuryakose Illickal (Velliyannoor), Shri Luke Puthenpurackal (Velliyannoor), Shri K. K. Narayanan Kazhunnakkal (Velliyannoor), and T. P. Govindankaimel Thumbakunnath (Poovakkulam) were members of the governing committee.

The first President was Shri E. U. Kuryakose Illickal of Velliyannoor, who continued in office until July 10, 1977. After the dissolution of this governing body, an Administrative Committee was formed under Order No. 155/77 LASWD. Shri E. U. Kuryakose Illickal (Velliyannoor), Shri T. P. Govindankaimel, Shri Chandran Parameswaran, and Smt. Thankamma Mathew were members of this committee. The committee remained in existence until September 26, 1979.

Subsequently, on September 27, 1979, a new governing body was formed with Shri V. L. Luke Vettickal (Velliyannoor) elected as President. Following the demise of V. L. Luke in 1981, Shri V. I. Geevarghese Kunnathumyalil (Puthuveli) was elected President on December 21, 1981. This governing body remained in office until October 24, 1984.

Thereafter, the Panchayat was administered directly by the Taluk Panchayat Officer until February 2, 1988. From February 6, 1988, to September 30, 1995, a governing body headed by Shri Johnsy Philipose Chulayikkottil (Puthuveli) served in office. From October 4, 1995, to September 30, 2000, the Panchayat was governed by the committee headed by Prof. K. J. Joy Muprappillil.

From October 1, 2000, to September 30, 2005, the governing body headed by Smt. Shibi Mathew Naramangalath (Poovakkulam) was in office. From October 1, 2005, to September 30, 2010, the Panchayat was governed by the committee headed by Smt. Shobha Narayanan Chalil (Poovakkulam).

From November 8, 2010, Shri M. N. Ramakrishnan Nair (Mayiladoor) served as President, and from December 23, 2013, Smt. Lilly Joseph served as President. A governing body headed by Smt. Thankamani Sasi assumed office on November 19, 2015. From December 20, 2020, a governing body headed by Sunny Puthiyidam served in office, followed by a governing body headed by Sajesh Sasi from January 30, 2023. The currently serving governing body headed by Jini Chacko assumed office on December 27, 2025.

The Panchayat office functions on land donated by Shri Narayanan Ilayath of Mattamana Illam, Velliyannoor, who was a freedom fighter and an eminent social worker.

The Panchayat area falls under the villages of Velliyannoor, Uzhavoor, and Monippally.
