Grama Panchayat

The present Veliyannoor Grama Panchayat area, until 1 December 1972, also included the Uzhavoor Panchayat area under the name Uzhavoor Panchayat. Its headquarters was at Veliyannoor. Shri. M.J. Abraham Myladumkunnel Puthuvayil. T. served as the President of Uzhavoor Panchayat for some time. During the tenure of the administrative committee headed by Prof. C.J. Joseph as President, Veliyannoor Panchayat came into existence on 1 December 1972 by dividing Uzhavoor Panchayat, as per Government Order No. 3179/MP special 4/72 LASWD L&SW. Shri. E.U. Kuriakose Illikkal Veliyannoor, Shri. Luca Puthenpuraykkal Veliyannoor, Shri. K.K. Narayanan Kazhunnakkal Veliyannoor, and T.P. Gevindakkaimal Thumpakunnath Poovakkulam were members of the administrative committee. The first President was Shri. E.U. Kuriakose Illikkal Veliyannoor, who continued as President until 10 July 1977. This administrative committee was dissolved and a Panchayat Administrative Committee was formed as per Order No. 155/77 LASWD. Shri. E.U. Kuriakose Illikkal Veliyannoor, Shri. T.P. Gevindakkaimal, Shri. Chandran Parameswaran, and Smt. Thankamma Mathew were the members of the said committee. The committee remained in existence until 26/09/1979. Thereafter, on 27/09/1979, an administrative committee headed by Sri. V.L. Luke Vettickal Veliyannoor as President came into existence. Following the demise of V.L. Luke in 1981, Sri. V.I. Geevarghese Kunnathumyali Puthuveli was elected President on 21/12/1981. This administrative committee remained in existence until 24/10/1984. Subsequently, there was direct administration by the Taluk Panchayat Officer until 02/02/1988. Later, from 06/02/1988 to 30/09/1995, an administrative committee headed by Sri. Jonsy Philippos Chulayikkottil Puthuveli as President came into existence. From 04/10/1995 to 30/09/2000, an administrative committee headed by Prof. K.J. Joy Muprappilly as President administered the Panchayat. Subsequently, from 01/10/2000 to 30/09/2005, an administrative committee headed by Smt. Shibi Mathai Naramangalath Poovakkulam as President and from 01/10/2005 to 30/09/2010, an administrative committee headed by Smt. Shobha Narayanan Chalil Poovakkulam as President were in existence. From 08/11/2010, an administrative committee headed by Sri. M.N. Ramakrishnan Nair Mayiladoor as President and from 23.12.2013, an administrative committee headed by Smt. Lilly Joseph as President also administered the Panchayat. From 19.11.2015, an administrative committee headed by Smt. Thankamani Sasi as President came into existence. From 20.12. 2020, an administrative committee headed by Sunny Puthiyidam as President and from 30.01.2023, an administrative committee headed by Sajesh Sasi as President came into existence. On 27.12.2025, the administrative committee headed by the current President Jini Chacko came to power.

The first Panchayat office functioned on the land donated by Sri. Narayanan Ilayath Mattamana Illam Veliyannoor, a freedom fighter and eminent social worker. Since May 2016, it has been functioning from the renovated building at Veliyannoor Perumattam Junction. This Panchayat area is situated under the Veliyannoor, Uzhavoor, and Monippally Villages.
